Superior Nutrition

Mysis diluviana offers exceedingly high levels of rich proteins Omega 3 and 6, fatty acids, and powerful antioxidants. Our freshly caught PE MYSIS are clean and intact, with no artificial enrichment performed. No binding agents or fillers are added to PE MYSIS upon packaging. PE Mysis has been acclaimed for improving fish energy and coloration by private owners, aquarium retailers, and curators of aquariums and zoos worldwide.

Mysis shrimp were originally introduced to North American lakes by various state and provincial fish and wildlife agencies in the 1960s and 1970s. The primary motivation was to enhance the food supply for sport fish, particularly kokanee salmon and lake trout. The agencies believed that the shrimp would provide a rich source of nutrition for these fish, thus supporting recreational fishing industries and improving fish populations.

However, the agencies did not anticipate the complex ecological interactions that would ensue. The shrimp outcompeted native fish for zooplankton, a critical food source, which led to declines in kokanee salmon populations and a boom in lake trout populations, further disrupting the lake’s ecosystem.

Under the Okanagan Action Plan, Piscine Energetics partnered with the Ministry of Environment to begin removing the invasive shrimp, helping to restore the lake’s ecosystem. The mysis is removed and frozen as fish food, or made into fish food pellets and flakes.
